This just in – an unconfirmed rumor that is strongly backed via reliable tequila industry sources say that premium tequila brand El Tesoro de Don Felipe was recently bought by Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc., owners of the Sauza tequila brand.
Carlos Camarena, the legendary maker of El Tesoro de Don Felipe, will no longer be involved with the creation of the tequila, and production will be moved to the Sauza distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico.

This could be why recently we have heard that Tapatio will be in U.S very soon.
El Tesoro has been a great product and hope we don’t loose this “sipper” as I find myself gravitating back to it, especially in a pinch. Hope they keep the same juice.
The tequila will continue to be made at La Altena for a minimum of seven years (unless mutually agreed before hand at a later date) under the same process. Once the product physically moves from La Altena, it wiill drop the de Don Felipe from the name. I have very excited for Carlos because it will provide the capital for him to explore his other brilliant ideas in addition to beginning to import Tapatio (and hopefully the Family Reserve) into the US.
