Announcing the Agavos Awards, An Agave-Focused Spirits Competition

Today we can finally announce the launch of a new agave spirits competition called the Agavos Awards. This competition is designed to allow agave-based products from all over the world, such as Tequila, Mezcal, Raicilla, and Agave Spirits to shine.

Do we really need another spirits competition? Well, yes, we think we do. The Agavos Awards won’t only focus on honoring all of the beautiful spirits made from agave, it will also be a fair and transparent competition, bringing the values that we have always strived for at Tequila Matchmaker.

Products will be purchased retail, so the judges are sampling the same products that any consumer might buy off the shelf. And we have selected judges –some from our tasting panel– who have deep experience with agave spirits.

Of course, we are not doing this alone. We have partnered with the reputable spirits competition company AMCP, administrators of the ASCOT Awards and John Barleycorn Awards, to handle entries and logistics.

This competition offers a great opportunity for emerging brands, and brands that have sat on the sidelines of other competitions, to get the attention they deserve.

Another differentiating factor: all tequilas that earn an Agavos Award will be signified with an award icon in the Tequila Matchmaker app and website. (Agave Spirits, Mezcal, and Raicilla will soon get the same treatment. We will be adding them to the Tequila Matchmaker app and website in early 2025.)

So, let’s start 2025 with a great new tradition – honoring agave with a competition designed to highlight the world’s best agave-based spirits, in all their forms.

HOW TO ENTER – Deadline is Feb. 13th

There are 2 distinct categories to the competition:

1) Taste
2) Marketing & Design

You can enter both, or just one.

The Taste competition is about the quality of what’s in the bottle, free of marketing and hype.

The Marketing & Design competition is all about presentation. We think this is a great opportunity for the creative bottle and label designers to get recognized for the amazing work they do to make agave spirits stand out on the shelves.
