We love tequila, but not all tequila. Case in point: Chaya Añejo. Both Scarlet and I found it rather unpleasant, although the bottle has a cool design. Unfortunately, a unique bottle doesn’t correct its unpleasant taste.

Chaya Añejo is said to have “earthy tones,” and I suppose that’s true. We smelled and tasted “cut grass” and “peat moss,” and not any agave at all. Honestly, we don’t want those kinds of tastes in our tequila.
We must assume that there are people in the world that like this stuff for the simple fact that BevMo makes it available on their store shelves. The bottle caught my attention, so I thought I would bring it home to Scarlet as a gift, since neither of us had ever tried it. I would love to hear from people who like this stuff – so leave a comment on this post if you do.
But, as for us, we won’t be buying this again.

Chaya reposado is one of the best repos out there. I believe the Chaya brand is only for export – distribution out of Pasadena, I think. They are having trouble with the brand because the creator died and no one really has his passion. Actually, I have it on good authority the brand is for sale. I don’t know about the anejo but the repo is a really good “sippin’ tequila.” In fact, it’s up there in my top 3 and like you I know my tequila! Go back to BevMo and give it a go. I always recommend it but will most certainly pass on the anejo given your opinion. Would love to hear what you think about the repo though….

I tried Chaya blanco about 5 years ago as one of my 1st “gourmet” tequilas and I liked it. Since then my pa;late has ‘matured” and now i find the blanco constricted and “tight-assed’. NOT something I’d look forward to settling in with. The anejo is a different beast it seems. I tasted that once about 4 years ago in the company of the mighty Tapatio XA, Pechuga mezcal etc…. needless to say it was a pale competitor.

I agree. I was very disappointed when I tried this one. Almost as bad as Porfidio Reposado (the blue bottle). The tequila is just overwhelmed by an unwanted and unpleasant flavor.
While in the Yucatan peninsula I had a non alcoholic drink made with the Chaya plant. It was sweetened, cool and very refreshing considering the heat and the miles I’d walked. Tasted like cut grass hunh? That sounds about right. I am not disuaded. I’ll give it a try if I come across it.
Personally I loved the sweet taste. I will try to get a larger version & see the end result. If its bad as described in video, I will let you know.
